SEO marketing has been around for more than 20 years now and it has received a lot of updates and improvements along the way. The thing about this field is that despite the new things that you can learn every day, there are still some things that you do not know about it. That is just what fascinates me to continually learn more about this field.
However, despite its 20+ years of existence, there are still so many things that people still get wrong about SEO. Here are just some of them:
Nothing More than a Gimmick
A lot of people still think that search engine optimization is just a bunch of mere tricks and gimmicks. This is probably due to the existence of black hat SEO techniques before, but because of new improvements to search engine algorithms, these shady tactics do not work anymore.
Most SEO techniques that you see implemented today are white hat tactics that are actually supported by Google. In other words, it is the only way to use SEO to help you increase your page rankings. And no, it is not a gimmick or a set of tricks; it actually works, given enough time.
Keywords Are the Only Thing You Should Think About
Although it is true that keywords are still pretty useful in this day and age, when we’re talking about search engine optimization, keywords, alone, do not have that much bearing anymore.
Because of recent updates to the algorithm, Google now looks at keywords in a different way. So instead of using exactly-matched strings of words, Google now uses semantics instead. This actually improves the quality of content as it is not structured anymore to only cater to the keywords being used.
The Less Money You Spend, the Better the Results
This is not true at all. If anything, the more money you spend, the better the ROI. This is due to the complexity of SEO in itself. The more people that work on your website’s SEO (meaning, you spend more money), the better your results will be as opposed to just doing SEO tasks all by yourself.
Link Building is a Black Hat SEO Technique
Black hat SEO is just a collection of shady techniques and strategies that try to trick Google’s search algorithm to gain an unfair advantage of the competition. However, most of the tricks do not work anymore in this day and age.
One important aspect of SEO is Link Building and because of the way it is done, some people think that this is just a means to spam content to gain more inbound links.
This is not true at all. First off, Google’s algorithm is much more intelligent now and it knows if a link building plan is a spam or not. Second, you just cannot create content on a low-authority website and get a higher page ranking in the process.
Link building requires planning now since you just cannot create content to gain links from just about any website. The more authoritative the website that creates the inbound links, the higher your ranking will be.
SEO is the Same for Everyone
No, this is not true at all. Despite the fact that the SEO techniques you can implement are the same, the results are never going to be the same for every client. There are just so many factors to consider including the niche, the website that the client owns, the keywords that need to be used.
Although the process stays relatively the similar, the results that every client experiences will not be similar.
